Sharing learning from the past

Training Course

6-12 November 2022 | Kraków, Poland

The project is a combination of a training course, study visit and partnership-building activity. It will gather youth workers, educators and youth leaders to discuss the importance and ways of implementing international cultural heritage projects.

The project is targeted at people actively involved in youth or heritage work and who would like to combine it at an international level.

The programme is designed for people who are ready to learn, explore, discover and develop their skills, competences and know-how and who want to apply this learning in their jobs and communities. The methodology of the project will be based on a non-formal learning approach combined with visits to museums and archives.

This project is a follow-up of the Learning from the Past project which documented histories of peace and internationalism across Europe in the years following the First World War and reflected on that learning for us as Europeans today (http://learningfromthepast.net).

The main aims of the project are: to increase young people’s interest in and understanding of heritage, including the links between local and international histories; develop critical thinking and global citizenship skills that challenge growing nationalist discourses. To do that first we need to introduce and spread heritage learning in youth work practices and prepare youth workers to work on this topic.

The objectives of project are:

  • sharing experience of youth workers/educators/volunteers from past heritage projects;
  • learning best practices regarding heritage projects;
  • sharing "know-how" on how to organise events and educational activities focused on cultural heritage and understanding history;
  • raising understanding about non-formal education methodology in learning about history;
  • increasing youth workers’ interest in heritage and skills relating to critical thinking, global citizenship and creativity
  • increasing the capacity of partner organisations to develop multicultural heritage projects
  • creating a network of organisations focused on cultural heritage education for young people and strengthening cooperation between partners.

A detailed programme will be sent in October. It will be adjusted to the needs and expectations of participants.

We invite you to participate if you:

  • are interested in developing heritage projects
  • are actively involved in activities for young people in the broad sense
  • have some experience in non-formal education and experiential learning either as a trainer, youth educator or youth worker
  • are ready to learn, explore, discover and develop your skills, competences and know-how and willing to apply this learning in future heritage projects
