Training for Youth Workers to Support their Practices with Young People

This three-day training event hosted by Youth Work Ireland in partnership with the Irish National Agency Léargas will provide a space for youth practitioners to explore the necessary tools, skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to create a safe environment to have conversations with young people around sexual health, sexual identity and positive relationships. Using a range of methodologies, this event will build participant’s capacity, confidence, and ability to address these topics with young people in their organisations.

  • Build youth workers confident and competencies to discuss concepts of sexual health, consent, and positive relationships with young people.
  • Support youth worker’s understanding of concepts of gender and sexual identity and the impact of power and control in relationships.
  • Support youth workers to develop practical ways to engage with young people in relation to topics of sexual health.
  • Support youth workers to explore attitudes and behaviours towards sexual health with young people.
  • Strengthen and share best practices in relation to sexual health education and training.
  • Support workers to understand the impact of power and prevention in Gender Based Violence and to explore the impact of wider influences (social media, internet, other people) in decision making around sexual health.
  • Explore Erasmus+ funding opportunities.

This training is targeted at youth workers, youth work managers and leaders who work on a regular basis with young people aged 12–24 years of age.
