The training course SAIL DEEPER: SOCIAL INCLUSION is first international activity of long-term strategic partnership project "SAIL DEEPER: Sailing Associations’ International Learning to Develop and Exchange Educational Programs Engaging Regions" organized by project partners STA Latvia (Sail Training Association Latvia), SNUPU (Sail Trainees of Finland) and ATYLA International Training Ship Foundation (Spain).

Project SAIL DEEPER aims to improve the quality of youth work in partner organizations by providing international learning and experience exchange platform for partners to improve their sail training service and youth work on board and widen their collaboration network increasing their impact in youth field also on local level.

The objectives of this particular training course SAIL DEEPER: SOCIAL INCLUSION are:
–> to build up the project's team, agree on plans, tools and expected results;
–> to explore sail training as an inclusion tool for young people;
–> to learn about Finnish practices to apply sail training working with youth with disabilities and special needs (impaired vision, hearing impairment, difficult social background etc.);
–> to explore non-formal education methods for social inclusion on board;
–> to develop local off-season program and prepare for its implementation.

The main fields and general objectives of the project SAIL DEEPER are:

INTERNATIONAL NETWORK AND COMMON LONG-TERM CREW PEER-TRAINING: to exchange the best practices of partners sail training programs for young people (during sailing season and off-season; on local, national and international environment and with differ-rent social background), and to collect these methodologies for wider use;

SOCIAL INCLUSION: to deepen the competences of partners' members to work with young people using outdoor, experiential and non-formal education, also working with youth with less opportunities and disabilities;

LOCAL NETWORK WITH NEW PARTNERS, OFF-SEASON PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT: to develop an off-sailing season program for local youth using non-formal education approach and seamanship that will allow youth to develop life-long learning competences and useful practical skills.

Sail Training Association Latvia (STA Latvia) unites experienced sailors and young sailing enthusiasts and promotes democratic sea sailing opportunities in Latvia, Baltic Sea and internationally. STA Latvia also initiates and participates in social youth projects developing and promoting sailing as a method in youth work. STA Latvia is also a member of the Sail Training International network. Since 1998 its sail training yacht SPANIEL participates in regatta Tall Ship Races every year where 50% of the team is always younger than 25 years.

Costs

Participation fee

There is no participation fee. However, you are responsible for your own travel insurance (that covers also sailing activities). Your contribution to participate in the training course is also to develop and implement LOCAL SAILING-RELATED OFF-SEASON PROGRAM for youth together with your National Team during the period of September 2019 – March 2020 reaching at least 50 local youngsters with your activities and preparing the report of it. Ask your organization for more details!

Accommodation and food

Thanks to the support of Erasmus+ Youth in Action program, your accommodation, food, equipment and training program on sail training ship Helena are covered. You need to take your own sleeping bag and towel with you!

Travel reimbursement

Thanks to the support of Erasmus+ Youth in Action program, also your travel expenses will be covered: up to 300 EUR per participant from SPAIN, up to 160 EUR per participant from LATVIA and up to 20 EUR per participant from FINLAND (farther than 100km from Helsinki).
The travel reimbursement will be done by bank transfer after successful participation in the training course and providing all travel documents (tickets, invoices, boarding passes) with the requisites of organizer).
N.B.! Do not buy any tickets before final approval by organizers! Ask your organization for the requisites!

Participants are entitled to receive a Youthpass certificate from the organiser, for recognition of their competence development during the activity. Read more about Youthpass:
