Robotics in Youth Work: From Playful Missions to Real Skills

E-learning

8 September 2026 | Zoom, Greece

An online workshop using simple examples and mission‑based design, participants learn how to use robots to develop teamwork, problem‑solving and creativity with young people – even with limited equipment.

A practical online workshop designed for youth workers, trainers and educators who want to explore educational robotics as a tool for learning. The focus is on how robots and simple programmable devices can support skills such as collaboration, planning, resilience and systems thinking.

Participants explore what “robotics” can look like in youth work: from programmable toys and simple kits to low‑tech simulations of robots when no hardware is available.

Through concrete examples, the session introduces the idea of mission‑based activities: small challenges where a “robot” has to achieve a goal (follow a line, move an object, navigate a map, simulate a social scenario). Participants see how each mission can be framed around real‑life issues, such as accessibility, environmental protection, or community problem‑solving, turning robotics into a vehicle for values and discussion.

In groups, participants design one robotics session tailored to their own context and resources. They choose a mission, define roles within the team (e.g. programmer, builder, tester, documenter), and outline the steps from briefing to testing to debriefing. They also plan how they will handle mistakes and failures as learning moments, and how they will invite all young people to contribute, regardless of technical confidence.

The workshop concludes with presentations of the session plans, peer feedback and a short reflection on how robotics can connect to broader youth work goals, such as inclusion, participation and digital literacy.

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • see robotics as an accessible method for youth work rather than a purely technical field
  • understand how to frame robotics activities as missions with clear learning goals
  • have a ready‑to‑test session plan adapted to their own level of equipment and group needs
  • feel more prepared to use robotics to support soft skills, creativity and interest in technology among young people.

Sapounofouska Events & More is a creative interdisciplinary team specialised in children’s parties, educational programmes, non-formal learning activities, and participatory events. The team brings together educators, facilitators, artists, and creators of imaginative group experiences, with a strong focus on playful engagement, inclusion, creativity, and meaningful human interaction.

Its framework of activity combines STEAM education, educational robotics, theatrical play, music-and-movement activities, improv theatre, group dynamics, outdoor experiences, educational games, creative workshop design, and interactive festive elements such as bubble show-inspired experiences. The team designs activities for children, young people, educators, and communities, creating spaces where learning, expression, movement, and celebration can coexist in an organic and joyful way.

The educational methodology behind the event is informed by non-formal education, experiential learning, STEAM principles, and the 5E model, which supports a learning journey from curiosity and exploration to meaning-making, extension, and reflection. This makes the event suitable not only as a participatory experience, but also as a space for educational inspiration and practical learning design.

At the heart of the team’s philosophy is the belief that play, creativity, movement, imagination, collaboration, and embodied participation can create powerful conditions for learning and connection. Through its events and educational programmes, Sapounofouska seeks to build experiences that are lively, inclusive, memorable, and grounded in the idea that learning can be both meaningful and joyful.
