Party-Cipation Training Course: Empowering young people

Training Course

15-22 March 2024 | Vorselaar (Antwerp), Belgium - FL

Discover the essence of participation! We'll dive into what participation means and how it varies in different EU realities. Our goal is to provide practical knowledge, methods and tools to engage the people you work with.

Why would you want to join this Training Course?

You are convinced that getting young people involved in youth work/volunteering is really important.

You are aware that it makes them feel confident and opens the possibility to claim ownership of the things that are most important to them. This can help in co-creating programs that fit their needs better and work well for them.

You know when young people/volunteers get to be part of decisions, they tend to feel responsible and do better. While it also stops them from feeling left out and disconnected.

You believe that getting involved helps them learn important skills like talking to others, working in a team, thinking carefully and critically, while solving problems.

You recognize that in the end, real participation is good for everyone because it makes society stronger and more active, with young people who are confident, informed, and ready to help out

How will you benefit?

This training course will help you as a youth worker or volunteer mentor to discover new methods, realities and give you practical knowledge to really implement in your own work which will improve your work with young people or volunteers.

Elegast vzw (Youth NGO)

Elegast offers assistance in the context of youth care, education, justice and social work. We deploy more than 25 forms of assistance from 15 departments at 10 different locations.
In this way we reach thousands of young people and their families every year. We don't just look at the client and his environment. In function of evolutions in a changing society, we renew our offer or adjust existing methods. After all, the world is not standing still, and certainly not the world in which young people grow up.

The organization wants to be a pioneer in partnerships, by working forward-looking and thinking ahead. Elegast is a dynamic organization in Antwerp that focuses, in its help and service, on young people and their families. From the experience in the professional field, we respond to new needs and needs of society. The most important goal in providing assistance is to support the clients and give them the chance to grow as a person in an environment of freedom, respect and responsibility.

A large part of Elegast's provision of assistance falls within the special youth care sector. Educational support is given to children, youngsters, families and their network.

Some examples: ‘home guiding/counseling’ for parents, residential setting for children who cannot live (temporary) at home, support of youngsters to live on their own, …
Another part of the organization is the ‘community service’: it organizes activities for the community and empowers people with fewer opportunities.
Some examples: free use of computers, computer lessons, play afternoons, craft workshops, Dutch classes, cleaning actions, sports activities, community celebrations, network meetings… We also work on awareness and prevention of possible pitfalls in life (social, financial…).

Involving volunteers in every part (giving and taking responsibilities) is part of the job. In all those activities are people involved with fewer opportunities, migrant background and asylum seekers. Vzw Elegast counts approximately 200 payed workers and 100 volunteers.
