North-South Cooperation for Local Youth Participation

Partnership-building Activity

14-19 September 2020 | Portimão, Portugal

The North-South Cooperation for Local Youth aims to improve the cooperation between NGOs and municipalities whose core work is the field of youth participation and in the framework of the new EU Youth Strategy and the Erasmus + and ESC programmes.

The North-South Cooperation for Local Youth Participation Partnership Building Activity (PBA) aims to improve cooperation and build strong and resilient partnerships between civil society organisations (CSO) and municipalities from countries in the south and north of Europe whose target group is youth and whose core work is fostering youth participation in the frame of the new EU Youth Strategy for 2019-2027 and the Erasmus + / European Solidarity Corps programmes.
Under the new Youth Strategy, the ESC and future Erasmus + programmes set up many opportunities for cooperation and further engagement of Youth Organisations, which should be better capitalized and potentialized with the combination of the knowledge, expertise and competencies of organisations of such diverse geographical backgrounds with the end-goal to better serve youngsters.
Therefore, this an opportunity to give new vigour and support the construction of new bridges of understanding and a renewed feeling of solidarity between nations from the south and north of Europe and build effective and sustainable ways of transposing these two new EU initiatives to the local level.

The specific objectives of this PBA are to:
• Foster networking and international exchanges between youth organisations and municipalities building trust and create space for project building;
• Exchange and promote realities and good practices in terms of local work towards empowerment of youngsters and disseminate the partners’ methodology and tools of youth participation at local level;
• Enlarge the network of partners and set up concrete follow-up projects to mainstream its methodology and enhance spaces of shared decision-making in youth policy development at local level in the region;
• Explore the Erasmus + and ESC programmes, emphasizing new key actions, promoting opportunities for further work and helping participants to navigate the programme;
• Empower and develop intercultural and other professional and social competencies of youth workers by delivering and exchanging methods of non-formal education in the concerned fields.
