Non-formal Magic in Youth Work

Training Course

18-25 May 2025 | Erba, Italy

The aim of this training course is empowering youth workers with innovative, qualitative and suitable non-formal methods to enhance their effectiveness in working with young people.

The project "Non-formal magic in youth work" seeks to help youth workers in the process of learning and developing their competences in a non-formal learning environment. The overarching goal is to empower youth workers with innovative, qualitative and suitable non-formal methods to enhance their effectiveness in working with young people.

Our project objectives are:

1. Gain knowledge of innovative non-formal methods and develop facilitation skills.

2. Enhance facilitation abilities by conducting needs assessments and designing youth activities.

3. Adopt a proactive approach in using non-formal methods.

This project is mainly addressed to:

  • Youth workers that are currently working with young people
  • Youth workers that are new in the youth field but are actively volunteering in an organization
  • Trainers that want to improve their competences
  • Teachers that want to start a training carrier and that are already involved in extracurricular activities
  • Volunteers in non-profit organizations

Age limit: over 18

The main trainer:

Alexandru Arhire start his training career 15 years ago, in an insurance company. After 6 years, he realized that this activity does not fulfil his desire to help society. He quit his job and started working with various NGOs while implementing activities in local high schools in Bucharest.

The topics he addresses are topics that young people do not normally learn in school: how to communicate assertively, soft skills, ecology, personal development, how to get a job, etc. He worked with more than 500 young people and 200 youth workers, in the last years. He was involved in writing more than 20 E + projects and he was a trainer in multiple projects where he used non-formal education to help people develop their skills and improve their attitudes.

Participants in this training course:

  • will better understand non-formal education
  • will learn how to introduce non-formal education in diverse contexts with young people, encompassing its benefits
  • will be able to define the differences between formal, non-formal and informal education
  • will explore different non-formal methods
  • will know more about setting clear learning objectives while using non-formal methods
  • will develop techniques for managing group dynamics
  • will gain insights into quality standards and best practices in non-formal
    education
