Training Course
17-23 October 2026 | Ohrid and Galichica Mountain, Republic of North Macedonia
About the activity
From 17 to 23 October 2026, 24 youth workers and youth leaders from different countries will gather in Galičica National Park (near Ohrid, North Macedonia) for a 7-day outdoor Training Course.
The focus is non-formal outdoor education, mental & physical well-being, and youth empowerment, using nature as a practical tool for youth work. This is not a competitive sports event, but an experiential learning journey in which participants explore historic Ohrid through team challenges, stay at the Spiridon Mountain Hut, learn from park experts and mountain rescue teams, hike to Lake Prespa viewpoints, ascend Peak Magaro (2 254 m) with an eco-action, and create digital video outputs of the experience.
Evenings are dedicated to intercultural nights where participants share traditions, stories, music, and local food. One night of optional outdoor camping in tents is also planned so the group can fully immerse in nature-based methodologies.
Mountain activities may be slightly adjusted according to weather conditions.
What you will learn
Participants develop competences in five interconnected areas:
Physical & Outdoor Learning Hiking to Peak Magaro builds stamina, resilience and mountain safety skills. Hands-on eco-action and direct safety guidance from Mountain Rescue teams.
Mental Health & Well-being Nature immersion on Galičica supports stress relief, focus and emotional regulation. “Walk & talk” sessions combine outdoor movement with self-reflection and recharge.
Social & Team Collaboration Ohrid treasure hunt and group tasks strengthen trust, communication and leadership. Intercultural evening exchanges foster empathy and global connection.
Youth Work & Personal Growth Pushing physical limits builds self-confidence and personal resilience. Participants leave with experiential outdoor tools ready to apply in their daily youth work.
Digital & Life Skills Content creation and video editing for impactful digital storytelling (even with limited internet). Practical skills in route planning, environmental preservation and group safety.
Venue & practical setting
Main activities and accommodation take place at the Spiridon Mountain Hut in Galičica National Park, with one night in the city of Ohrid. Participants stay in mixed rooms and live as a self-organised community (daily host groups take care of common areas; everyone is responsible for their own space). Meals and coffee breaks are provided by the organisers.
The closest airports are Ohrid, Skopje and Tirana. A shuttle will be organised from Skopje. From Tirana there are regular busses to Struga, 10 km away from Ohrid.
