Nectarus team, Cities of Learning partners, and the Alliance of Youth Work Associations are creating a good practice example in Europe on how the European Training Strategy (ETS) can be translated into specific actions – a set of modular training courses for youth workers and competence certification system (see more details here).

This international training will be the first activity in a series of modular training for youth workers. It will focus on the ETS competence area of Designing Programmes, especially international programmes (*see full description below).

Highlights of this training activity:

Aligned to the ETS competence model for Youth Workers working internationally - the course objectives and content are aligned with professional competences expected for quality programme design in international youth work and non-formal learning.

Focuses primarily on international youth work programme development, for example, youth exchanges, participation projects and volunteering activities, however beneficial to local programmes.

Certified training - the broad coalition of partners will create opportunities for the course participants to assess, validate and recognise competence development at the international level and in specific countries.

Digital friendly - the training and competence assessment methodology and activities will include using digital tools and platforms, for example, Cities of Learning and digital Open Badges.

Long-term development opportunity - participants willing to continue to develop youth work professional competences will be invited to apply for the following training courses.

Description of the ETS competence area Designing Programmes: “Designing programmes involves a good understanding of the different groups and environments that a youth worker deals with. This precondition is essential to being able to develop and design programmes – be it with an explicit educational purpose or not. The youth worker applies non-formal learning values and principles in the programmes and responds to the needs and realities of young people, which are more complex in an international context. This competence area includes how designing programmes can address political, societal, technological and cultural issues in youth work and how it can be opened up to include the wider community.”
