Mental Health in Youth Work: Inspirational Event

Conference – Symposium - Forum

22-25 May 2023 | Algarve Region, Portugal

Do you want to know how wellbeing can be promoted through youth work? Join this large mental health event and be inspired by ideas, methods and practices that promote mental health in youth work. Come as a team of a youth worker and young people.

Mental health awareness

Whether you are a young person or a youth worker, you can learn how to promote your own mental health and the mental health of others. In the event you can learn:

  • what are mental health skills
  • how we can all learn to take care of our wellbeing
  • how we can support other people’s wellbeing
  • what kind of methods are used to promote mental health in youth work and young people’s activities

You can choose from a variety of workshops that cater for both youth workers and young people. Choose the programme elements that are interesting to you and be inspired to promote mental health through your activities.

Peers interact with peers

We give space to young people to tell how mental health should be addressed by youth workers and youth organisations. Groups of young people from different countries have already been preparing content for the event and they want to involve other young people to explore, discuss and learn about promotion of mental health.

We want to create a dynamic space for collaboration, inspiration, and empowerment, with a strong peer-to-peer element.

Share and learn

You can also inspire others with your work! We hope to learn from different practices youth workers use in their organisations and what peers organise to their peers.

Pick and choose the positive mindsets, organisational approaches and working methods that you want to bring from your own organisation.

Adults and young people as a team

Create a team of 1 youth worker and 1-2 young people who are 16-24 years old. Fill in the application with the information on your team and tell us what motivates you to join.

If your team has young people who are under 18, make sure you will follow all the national regulations for safeguarding and parental consent. Please be aware that you will be responsible for the underage participants, not the organisers.

How to apply?

As the adult youth worker of the team, you will log on to your MySALTO account and open the application. Then you will add the personal information of the young people you are applying with in your application.

So every team will have just one application.

Large and international event

In this international event you will meet up to 120 participants from 13 countries!

Finland, Norway, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Belgium, Hungary, Slovenia, Portugal, Spain, Serbia and Turkey will send their teams. Unfortunately, the event is open only for teams from these countries.

Enjoy the colourful combination of cultures and respect the diversity. We respect you just the way you are, regardless of your background, culture, religion, or age.

Baby steps towards a better world

In our activities we support the principle of a safer space, where no one is discriminated or bullied because of their background or person. We want you to respect the same principle.

We want to support your wellbeing too. We offer an option to organise wellbeing sessions each morning and night. You can join relaxing moments, or you can offer a meditative or active session yourself.

We want to enable the participation of people with all kinds of abilities. Our premises are accessible. Knowing your individual needs will help us to provide the needed support.

We also strive to make the world a little bit greener. We encourage you to consider travelling to Portugal on land as much as possible. If you want to, you can sign up for a vegetarian or vegan meals.
