LTA SPI - Study Visit - Youth Work in Rural Areas

Study Visit

7-11 October 2024 | Laconì (OR), Italy

The aim of this Study Visit is to explore and analyze the situation of young people and youth organizations living in a rural area and to reflect on the possible solutions offered by the Erasmus+ Program to overcome the obstacles and barriers.

Study Visit Activity

7-11 October 2024 | Sardinia, Italy

Italy is composed mainly of small villages/cities where young people often live without significant mobility learning opportunities and where most of the youngsters are forced to leave their communities to go to a big city where they can find, maybe, a better future to study, to travel, to work and to experience learning opportunities.

The Italian National Agency is involved in the Strategic Partnership on Inclusion (LTA SPI) coordinated by SALTO Inclusion & Diversity, focusing on empowering organizations working with young people with fewer opportunities. This activity is therefore part of this cooperation specifically in regard to the rural strand.

Are you engaged in youth work within rural or isolated areas? Would you like to explore how Erasmus+ Programme can offer more inclusive opportunities for young people in your community?

Join us for a Study Visit that dives deep into the challenges and successes of fostering youth inclusion in rural areas!

We will explore one isolated area in the center of Sardinia region, where organizations and youth workers try to provide learning opportunities for youngsters within the Erasmus+|Youth

The activity will take place in Laconi, Italy, between 7-11 October 2024 (arrival 7 Oct, departure 11 Oct) and will include 25 participants.

Aims and objectives

The overall aim of this Study Visit is to explore and analyze the situation of young people and youth organizations living in a rural area and to reflect on the possible solutions offered by the Erasmus+ Programme to overcome the obstacles and barriers existing. Through workshops and other active methods from no formal education, participants will meet several case studies that will help them to understand how local organizations deal with youth with fewer opportunities in rural areas, what difficulties they face and which are their experience with European youth programs.

The main objectives are:

  • To increase the participation of young people and organizations (particularly newcomers) in the Erasmus+ programmes.
  • To understand challenges and strategies to include young people living in rural areas in European youth projects
  • To encourage and support the accessibility of the European youth programs as a tool for inclusion in rural areas;
  • To highlight good practices in rural youth work and the existing projects;
  • To increase the capacity of the organizations to work at international level;
  • To encourage the partnership building among participants in order to develop Erasmus+ projects.

Participant’s profile:

Representatives of youth organizations or informal groups of young people working in rural and/or isolated areas;

Employes of welfare services, social workers, professionals involved in public municipalities/public bodies working in the youth field in rural and/or isolated contexts.

Working language is English.
