Live, Work, Create – Forwardlooking Youth Participation in Tromsø, the European Youth Capital of 2026

In 2026, Tromsø is the Youth Capital of Europe, being the first Nordic country to receive the title. The Youth Capital year is focused on youth participating in making Tromsø a better place for youth to live, work, and create. Through ten main pillars, young people are participating in policy processes, creating inclusive events, receiving trainings, and much more.
The project team for the European Youth Capital year, True North 2026, is proud of the city's commitment to this vision of Live, Work, Create, and want to share our experience with youth workers across Europe. The objective of the training is to equip youth workers in the field of non-formal learning with different tools for youth participation within their work, as well as sharing practical examples and networking for potential collaborations in the future.
We therefore share an open call for youth workers within the Erasmus+ programme countries and are associated with an organisation to come to Tromsø for a five-day training and exchange, 22nd - 26th of September 2026, with travel days on the 21st and 27th.
At the start of the week, participants will engage in a facilitated training focused on exchanging experiences with youth work in your context, and workshops on the future of youth participation within youth work. This will be supplemented with short study visits to youth initiatives around the city. Towards the end of the week, participants will get to experience a 'study visit' to Tromsø's first-ever youth participation festival Peis På! (Go wild! in Norwegian slang). The festival is organised by True North, with contributions from organisations all over the city, and aims to show young people all the different forms that participation can take, redefining what 'active citizenship' looks like.

True North 2026 (Others)
True North 2026 is the team executing Tromsø's year as the European Youth Capital of 2026. The project is under the municipality of Tromsø, and so we are technically a public body. We engage actors across the city to have more focus on engaging young people in their activities, and we also organise many activities and events for young people ourselves. We also participate in international and national events, advocating for an increased focus on youth's active participation and inclusion into broader society. Our focus is on youth participation, with sub-pillars being, to name a few, international cooperation, indigenous youth in the city, young worklife, inclusion, and student life.

Participation fee

Accommodation and food
We will organise and provide accommodation and food free of charge.
Travel reimbursement
We will reimburse travel in line with the rates provided for Erasmus+ Mobility for Youth Workers exchanges. The rates depend on the distance between you and Tromsø, as well as whether you travel to Tromsø by green transport.
These rates are, with amounts showing green/non-green travel:
10 – 99 km 56 EUR/28 EUR
100 – 499 km 285 EUR/211 EUR
500 – 1999 km 417 EUR/309 EUR
2000 – 2999 km 535 EUR/395 EUR
3000 – 3999 km 785 EUR/580 EUR
If travel costs are extraordinary (Erasmus+ reimbursement covers less than 70% of real travel costs), you might be eligible for further reimbursement. In this case, the training organisers must be contacted.
Do not book travel until your participation is confirmed and organisers have given the green light to do so.
