“K*LL THE BOSS” - Shared governance and transformation of power dynamics in youth organisations

In  2023,  after  10  years  of  cultivating  participation  and  reflection  around  power  and decision  making  ,  Hors  Pistes  transformed  its  governance  system  into  a  collective coordination  inspired  by  sociocratic  principles.  

3  years  later,  we  acknowledge  the  need  of sharing  with  the  outside  world  the  experiences  (success  and  failures)  and  all  the  questions that came-up throughout this experiment.

With  other  curious  and  motivated  people  working  in  the  youth  field  we’d  like  to  explore  the topics of shared governance and transformation of hierarchical structures.

We  want  to  open  a  space  to  question  the  connection  between  the  values  of  youth  work and the real organisations’ internal practices and power dynamics.  We  want  to  explore  the  sparks,  the  beauty  but  also  the  contradictions  and  limits  of  this  type of system. 

Objectives :

- Reflect on different views of power and governance

- Exchange on different forms of participation and group dynamics

- Discover the collective coordination of Hors Pistes, based on sociocratic principles

- Share different experiences of governance

- Experience different methods to support decision-making in groups

- Discuss the implication of youth in the governance of organisations

- Identify potential transformation in your own organisation’s system
