Into Our Wild

Training Course

30 May - 6 June 2024 | Hopeland eco-community, Greece

Into our Wild is training for youth workers who want to come closer to nature, the community way of living, and themselves by slowing down, moving, sharing, challenging themselves and applying the new insights to their own practice back home.

Accessing the wild within, embracing authenticity and drawing from our fullest potential to make contribution/give back

ABOUT

Into our Wild project is based on active involvement & communal mindset. We will be dancing between self-expression and the natural world, on the score of what interconnects us with each other and with the bigger frame. Our intention is reconnecting with our primary roots and fostering holistic well-being through:

Embodiment: focus on somatic processes that allow deeper self-awareness and expression beyond the words. Body movement, body awareness, dynamic somatic practices, playfight, body work etc.

Nature based activities: allow growth by connecting & interacting with our inner and outer nature. Rituals and rites, mindful exercises, meditative practices etc.

Hands-on activities: the practical engagement in daily life of Hopeland community that brings tangible results and full integration of the learning processes. Gardening, building, digging, cooking, cleaning etc.

ABOUT THE LOCATION

Hopeland is located in a 8-acre piece of land, with old olive trees, almond and other trees, native herbs and it is surrounded by a forest and boasts, 5 oak trees protected by the local Forest Protection Service, out of which, one of them is estimated to be 400 years old and it came to be the landmark of Hopeland. The land is located on a hill near the Malandreni village and 130km south of Athens which is approximately 2h bus drive. The nearest town, Argos, is 12km away and there you can find anything from small shops to supermarkets, banks, post offices, and bus stations. Closer to Hopeland and within 4km you can find small shops for snacks and coffee, but as they are not in walking distance, smart and sustainable planning of supplies is needed.

  • Accommodation is going to be happen mostly outdoors. There are 6 glamping teepee tents available which can host around 4 people each. There is the guest house, a two-storey building built with the strawbale eco-building technique. The ground floor serves as a common gathering area and upstairs there is an undivided space with 16 beds. in case you want more privacy, you can bring your own tent. Wherever you sleep you will you must bring your own sleeping bag, bedsheet and pillowcase.
  • There are 5 common toilets (2 indoors, 2 outdoors and 1 compost), 6 showers (1 indoor, 3 outdoor with a roof, and 2 outdoor without a roof).
  • Electricity is limited as they are provided through photovoltaics so we don’t use hairdryers/hairstaigtners or any other heavy-duty electrical appliances. There is no washing machine, only washbasins. Wifi is available in the office area and even though we encourage people to stay offline during their stay in Hopeland, internet access can be provided if needed.
  • Hopeland is a vegetarian, drugs-free venture and we encourage mindful consumption of alcohol and tobacco as part of our commitment to a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

Hopeland is offering various experiential learning experiences through the Erasmus+ and ESC programs, mainly on the topics of personal growth, community and environment.

We are welcoming young people, educators and local farmers to join forces with us and together contribute towards our wider vision of a society with deep community spirit and involvement in personal, social and environmental growth.
