HerSpace: Beyond Understanding the Manosphere – Responding to Anti-Feminism with Girls and Young Women

Training Course

16-22 January 2027 | Berlin, Germany

The "HerSpace" European Training & Co-Creation Lab bringing together youth workers, educators and facilitators to strengthen girls' and young women's agency, challenge anti-feminist narratives and co-create educational approaches across Europe.

Social media plays an important role in how young people explore their identities, form opinions and understand the world around them. Girls and young women are increasingly confronted with anti-feminist narratives in digital spaces. Misogynistic content, harmful gender stereotypes and extremist narratives can be amplified through social media, algorithmic echo chambers and AI-driven content, shaping how young people understand identity, relationships, and belonging.

While much current attention is focused on masculinity, the manosphere and the radicalisation of young men, HerSpace puts the focus on agency of girls and young women.

About HerSpace

“HerSpace” is a project of Kreisau-Initiative e.V., in cooperation with partner organisations in Poland, France and the United Kingdom.

The overall aim of HerSpace is to strengthen young women’s critical awareness of anti-feminist narratives, promote gender equality and support girls and young women in actively shaping digital spaces.

HerSpace is designed as a longer-term European process rather than a single training activity. In 2027, the project will continue with the development of a European online platform providing educational resources and approaches for working on anti-feminist narratives, as well as two international youth exchanges. The training is also an opportunity to build a European network of organisations, youth workers and trainers who may contribute to the further development of HerSpace.

Summary:

Dates: 16–22 January 2027, 16 and 22 are travel days.
Location: Berlin, Germany

What will we explore?

The training will provide space to gain a shared understanding of anti-feminist narratives and their role in young people’s digital environments, while focusing particularly on how youth workers and educators can support girls and young women to respond to these anti-feminist narratives.

Together, we will explore:

  • Anti-feminist narratives, misogyny and gender stereotypes in young people’s digital environments.
  • Links between anti-feminism, online radicalisation and connections to anti-democratic and far-right groups
  • The role of algorithms, AI and digital literacy.
  • Educational approaches for addressing these topics with young people.
  • Existing practices and experiences from different European contexts.
  • Collaboration with the HerSpace Youth Steering Group: engaging with the perspectives, experiences and priorities of young women involved in the project

Who is this training for?

We are looking for youth workers, educators, trainers and people involved in non-formal education who:

  • work directly with young people or are actively involved in youth organisations;
  • are interested in gender equality, digital youth culture and anti-discrimination work;
  • are interested in exchanging methods and experiences with practitioners from other European countries;
  • are willing to actively participate throughout the training; and are interested in contributing ideas to the further development of HerSpace.

The HerSpace project is currently developed in cooperation with organisations in Germany, Poland and France, and we particularly encourage applications from participants connected to these partner countries.

Organiser:

Kreisau-Initiative e. V. (Youth NGO)

The Kreisau-Initiative e. V. is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation based in Berlin. It was founded by committed citizens who had already come together in the summer of 1989. In January 1990, the Kreisau-Initiative was officially registered as an association. Its founding took place at a time of profound political change in Europe.

With support from European youth cooperation programmes, especially Erasmus+, we have been carrying out international educational projects for many years. As an experienced and reliable organisation, we contribute our experience to the implementation and further development of the EU Youth Strategy.

Anyone who works with young people needs spaces to exchange ideas, share experiences, and learn something new. In our training courses, seminars, and conferences, as a youth work professional you can try out new methods of civic education, share personal experiences, and build connections across borders. This way, you can gain new ideas and inspiration for your work. Our goal remains clear: to empower young people and show them that their voices matter.
