This online training is part of the Erasmus+ project HATE-LESS: Harnessing Awareness to End Hate Speech and Disinformation (https://hate-less.eu/).

It is the second session of a 4-part Train-the-Trainer series, designed to equip youth workers, trainers, youth leaders, volunteering mentors, and youth coaches with non-formal methods to support young people in creating participatory videos as tools to counter hate speech and disinformation.

Format & Logistics Workshop 2/4:

  • Online (Zoom): https://bit.ly/3Rs4qTz
  • Date: Thursday, 21st of May, 2026
  • Time:
    • 17:00-18:30 CET (Spain, Germany, France)
    • 18:00-19:30 EEST (Cyprus, Estonia)
  • Duration: 1.5 hours

Focus of this Session (Workshop 2) of HATE-LESS Train the Trainer (2/4): Voices from the Margins - Interview-Based Storytelling

In this session, participants will explore how interviews can be used to listen to, document, and amplify voices that are often marginalized, overlooked, or underrepresented in public conversations.

Using participatory approaches inspired by the HATE-LESS methodology, participants will:

  • Learn how to guide young people in using interviews as a storytelling method;
  • Explore how to ask respectful, open, and inclusive questions;
  • Reflect on consent, privacy, and ethical representation;
  • Create a short participatory video based on interview-based storytelling.

This approach reflects the HATE-LESS focus on moving from awareness to action by enabling young people to create their own narratives through media.

Learning Objectives: Participants will:

  • Understand how to apply interview-based participatory video methods in youth work
  • Learn how to facilitate non-formal media literacy activities focused on listening and dialogue
  • Develop skills in ethical storytelling, interview preparation, and inclusive representation
  • Gain tools to help young people create counter-narratives to hate speech through real voices and lived experiences.

Methodology: The training is based on:

  • Non-formal education methods (interactive, experiential learning)
  • Participatory Action Research (PAR) approaches
  • Hands-on video creation exercises
  • Reflection and peer exchange

This aligns with the HATE-LESS toolkit approach, which emphasizes participatory storytelling, media literacy, and youth empowerment through creative expression
