"GHETTO OUT" - Study Visit about migration in Italy

Study Visit

28 September - 5 October 2019 | Foggia, Italy

This Study Visit will take place in Foggia (South of Italy), to discover some Ghettos and other centers working on Migration's issue. If you’re studying or working on Migration’s topics, this is the project for you!

The Study Visit is addressed to youth workers with a sense of participation and interest about topics like Migrants' issues and Integration (people/students/youth workers interested in Anthropology, Sociology, Education, Law, Immigration, Intercultural, Storytelling)

The Study Visit will offer the possibility of direct interaction with disadvantaged people who migrate from countries at war or in a state of severe poverty, with the main purpose of carrying out a participatory discussion aimed at
strengthening intercultural awareness so that the idea of the different is not mediated by prejudices, whether positive or negative, but based on a real experience, facilitated by good practices and methods that increase understanding, a critical vision and a positive exchange.

Partecipants will be 24 and they will come from Turkey, Italy, Spain, Romania, Bulgaria, France.

The main activities will include:

  • Visits of different NGOs working about the topic of immigration (i.e. the Association “Ghetto OUT”) or debates with their activists, invited to present their experience.
  • Visit to the Ghetto with staff people from associations well knowing the place.
  • Spend some time in the Association Ghetto Out learning what some ex-residents are trying to do in order to live in a sustainable way outside the ghetto.
  • Storytelling and videomaking to disseminate contents in a best and powerful way.
  • Ethnographic interviews to ghetto residents or ex-residents and to the local community; comparing the results with the information we usually receive from the media.
  • Exchange of information on countries of origin, multicultural evenings (create dishes), dialectical dialogue on the perception of their country and of others.

Partecipants should have maximum 2 travel days before and after the Activity (28 sept.- 5 oct.)

The place we should host the participants should be a village near Foggia, called "Villaggio Don Bosco"

Good airports to get Foggia should be ROME, NAPOLI or BARI and then you can check buses or trains to Foggia. (For Turkish partecipants: The best travel is by flight from Istanbul to Rome and take bus from Rome to Foggia)
