YouthWatch (Youth NGO)
YouthWatch is the Slovak association of independent experts on youth work and youth policy. Our aim is to contribute to the quality of youth work (non-formal education in youth work), support of young people (especially their sense of initiative), identifying trends and needs of young people, promotion of new approaches and innovation in the youth work and assistance for modern youth policy implementation.
Vision: Our vision are young people who actively co-create the world around them, they are perceived as an important part of society and are properly supported.
Mission: We contribute to improving the quality of youth work and youth policy by following trends, bringing innovations and developing young people and those who work with them.
Youthwatch is a civic association that brings together experts, long-term youth workers, methodologists and trainers who are interested in development of youth work and youth policy in Slovakia. The organisation was founded in 2015.
Among members of the organisation you can find experts, who before YouthWatch worked at IUVENTA - Slovak Youth Institute. Members of YouthWatch have been involved in many projects oriented at the target group of young people and youth workers, which work with them. Also in the creation of strategies dedicated to work with youth (Act 282/2008 on the support of youth work, Strategy of the Slovak Republic for youth for the period 2014-2020, Concept of development of youth work for the years 2016-2020 etc.).
What are the organisation's main activities?
Thematically, the focus on the organisation's activities is divided into four main areas:
Youth policy and its implementation in practice
We understand youth policy as the management of public affairs in order to improve the quality of life of the young. We are aware that a proper and effective policy is based on the knowledge about young people of today.
Examples of areas we cover: setting up a youth policy system, conducting surveys on youth policy topics at various levels; assessment of the state of individual areas of youth policy at various levels, history and development of youth policy in Slovakia,
Quality of youth work and quality of non-formal education of youth workers
We see the goal of youth work evenly with the Council of Europe: to create such opportunities that will help young people shape their own future. We see youth work as a term including many diverse activities (social, cultural, educational, political, etc.) that ease one’s transit to adulthood. We are aware that the quality of youth work will also affect the quality of current and future young people, so it is crucial to support those who work with them.
