Empowering Youth Participation & Democratic Engagement: Online Activity-Based Civic Education Training for Trainers, Educators, Teachers & Youth Workers

Training Course

13 October 2026 | Online, Germany

Join the Youth4Change ToT – Empowering Youth Participation & Democratic Engagement and learn how to facilitate interactive workshops and activities on citizenship, democracy, civic engagement and youth participation.

Are you a trainer, youth worker, teacher, educator or expert working in civic education, civic engagement or EU citizenship?

This training is designed to strengthen trainers’ and youth workers’ capacity to facilitate activity-based civic education workshops, providing practical methods and exercises for engaging young people in discussions and learning experiences around citizenship, democracy, rights, responsibilities and civic participation.

Through interactive activities, simulations, reflection and peer exchange, participants will explore approaches to citizenship, democracy, civic participation and meaningful youth involvement that can be adapted to their own educational practice and local context.

AIM

The training aims to equip trainers, educators, and youth workers with the knowledge, competencies, methodologies, and practical tools necessary to support young people in moving from passive participation towards meaningful democratic engagement.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the training, participants will:

  • Experience and explore activity-based civic education methodologies based on non-formal and participatory learning approaches.
  • Develop their facilitation skills by applying practical tools and hands-on activities addressing civic engagement, democratic participation and youth participation.
  • Explore interactive and learner-centred approaches for engaging young people in discussion, advocacy, negotiation and democratic decision-making.
  • Strengthen their ability to adapt and facilitate civic education activities for different groups of young people and local contexts.
  • Exchange experiences, methodologies and good practices with trainers, educators and youth workers from different organisations and countries.
  • Increase their confidence in designing and implementing civic education workshops for young people.

TRAINING PROGRAMME

The training will be delivered through an interactive 3-hour online session combining presentations, practical activities, group work, breakout exercises and peer exchange.

The session is designed in a participatory and engaging format, ensuring balanced interaction and active involvement of participants.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

This Training is organised within the Youth4Change project, an international cooperation initiative that aims to strengthen young people's civic competences, democratic participation and European citizenship through non-formal education and participatory learning approaches.

The project brings together seven partner organisations from Germany, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Belgium, Italy, and Spain combining their expertise in youth work, civic education and non-formal learning to develop innovative educational resources for young people across Europe.

To support youth workers, trainers, teachers and educators in delivering high-quality civic education, the project is developing a Civic Education Curriculum, a Structured Dialogue Toolkit & Best Practices Guide, and a Handbook on Civic Education. These resources provide practical methodologies, interactive activities and facilitation guidance that can be adapted to different learning contexts and the needs of diverse groups of young people.

Through this Training of Trainers, participants will explore these educational resources, experience selected workshop activities, and strengthen their capacity to facilitate inclusive, participatory and learner-centred civic education workshops.
