Eco-Warrior Mindset

Training Course

15-23 October 2024 | Enying , Hungary

This course examines how climate change affects mental health, especially among young people.

The impacts of climate change are not just environmental; they're also deeply affecting our mental well-being. A recent study published in the Lancet Planetary Health journal found that 60% of young people aged 16 to 25 are extremely worried about the future consequences of the climate crisis. For nearly half of these young people, this anxiety significantly impacts their daily lives.

This growing mental health crisis is no coincidence. The current generation is coming of age in a world grappling with the devastating effects of climate change. Many feel betrayed by adults and decision-makers who have failed to address this urgent issue. Researchers warn that chronic stress caused by climate change can significantly increase the risk of mental and physical health problems among young people. They attribute much of this distress to governments' inaction on climate policy.

Goals:

  • Highlight the immediate impact of climate change: Emphasize that climate change is already affecting both the environment and mental health.
  • Address youth concerns: Acknowledge the significant anxiety and worry about climate change among young people aged 16 to 25.
  • Link climate concerns to daily life: Demonstrate how climate-related worries are having a substantial impact on young people's daily lives.
  • Recognize the generational burden: Highlight the feeling of responsibility and burden experienced by the current generation due to perceived inaction on climate change.
  • Identify mental health risks: Emphasize the potential negative mental and physical health consequences of chronic stress caused by climate change.
  • Criticize government action: Point out the role of government inaction in contributing to the mental health challenges faced by young people.
