2-6 March 2026 | Athlone, Ireland

This Youth Worker Mobility Training will take place in Ireland from March 2nd 2026 on the topic of Digital Storytelling & Game Design. This is a hands-on and practical training for organisations working with indigenous and marginalised Youth.

Overview

This training programme is designed to strengthen the competencies of youth workers through innovative, inclusive, and culturally responsive methodologies. It focuses on digital storytelling and creative game-based learning as tools to empower young people—particularly those from indigenous and underrepresented communities—to express cultural identity, challenge discrimination, and engage in cross-border dialogue.

By combining practical skills development, experiential learning, and intercultural exchange, the programme supports youth workers to design meaningful, participatory activities that amplify youth voices while fostering professional peer learning across borders.

Training objectives: 

  • Build youth workers' competence in:
  • Digital storytelling (podcasting, mobile video)
  • Game design (e.g. scenario card development)
  • Promote inclusive, creative methods in youth work with indigenous communities
  • Support cross-border peer learning and professional exchange
  • Create outputs that amplify cultural identity and youth voices

Key Activities

Workshops on:

  • Digital storytelling (e.g. podcasting, mobile media)
  • Basic game development (scenario cards)
  • Inclusion & Anti-Discrimination Training using scenario-based exercises, Cultural Exchange & Reflection Sessions – including visit to Athlone Castle and visit to an Involve Youth Project.

Co-creation of Outputs:

  • Podcasts, game cards, youth stories
  • Written reflections showcasing cultural identity

Applictions from:

Youth workers from Norway, Sweden, Finland who hold a valid OID/PIC number and are from the Saami community OR youth workers that work directly with Saami and or indigenous or marginalsied youth and hold a valid OID/PIC number. Youth workers from other EU countries who work with Indigenous/Marginalsied Youth may also apply providing they hold a hold a valid OID/PIC number.

Involve Youth & Community Services (Youth NGO)

Involve Youth and Community Services is embedded in education and training and is a youth, community and communications organisation working primarily with members of the Traveller community. It is the main provider of youth work services to young Travellers in Ireland. As part of the delivery of this service we also focus on young people from marginalised backgrounds.
Involves object for which the company is established are: –
1. Advocate equality and inclusivity for the Traveller community and provide educational and training programmes, initiatives and services that promote the participation and inclusion of the Traveller community in Irish society.
2. To support Travellers accessing employment and creating opportunities for Travellers to avail of Training Programmes that would enhance their employability in society.
The organisation directly manages, supports, delivers training and strategic direction to seven youth projects in the following Counties: Galway, Mayo, Donegal and Meath. Each of the seven youth projects has its own unique programme of activities and in total the projects engage with over 650 young people from the Traveller community every week, focussing primarily on those between the ages of 10 - 25 years old.

We maintain a strong, culturally grounded workforce, with 60% of Involve staff from the Traveller community, many of whom hold recognised qualifications in Youth and Community Development.
We have facilitated youth participation in Erasmus+ European exchanges, providing transformative opportunities for cultural learning, leadership development, and building connections beyond Ireland.
Our projects help strengthen young Travellers’ representation and voices in local and national youth participation structures, ensuring their perspectives shape policies and services.
We deliver targeted programmes focused on education, employment, and leadership pathways, supporting young Travellers to build confidence and plan for their futures.
We have developed innovative, culturally relevant resources and activities that reflect Traveller identity and values, while meeting the needs of today’s young people.
Involve hosted the first Traveller Youth Mental Health Conference as part of the No Shame campaign, bringing young people, professionals, and community members together to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and promote open discussion around mental health.

Costs

Participation fee

This project is funded under Erasmus+ Key Action 1: Mobility of Youth Workers, and costs are covered according to the Erasmus+ programme unit rates.

Accommodation and food

The following costs will be covered by the project in alignment with the rates in the 2024 Erasmus+ Programme Guide:

Accommodation and meals: Covered in full for the duration of the project (5 days total – 2 travel + 3 training days).  Accommodation, meals, and materials for the evening of the arrival day, the 3 training days and the morning of the last day will be arranged and paid directly by the host using the Erasmus + guidelines

Training materials and activities: Fully funded.

Travel reimbursement

The following costs will be covered by the project in alignment with the rates in the 2024 Erasmus+ Programme Guide:

Flight Booking & Reimbursement:

Participants/sending organisations are expected to book their own flights in advance.

Reimbursement will be processed after the mobility, once:

The participant has completed the full training.

All original receipts/boarding passes are submitted.

The travel cost stays within the Erasmus+ funding limit for the distance band.

Receipts will be required for the travel days and must remain within the Erasmus rates and guidelines

 

Participants are entitled to receive a Youthpass certificate from the organiser, for recognition of their competence development during the activity. Read more about Youthpass:
