Counter and Alternative Narratives Against Islamophobia

Training Course

13-22 November 2019 | London, United Kingdom

By this project, we want to answer identified needs of our colleagues, youth workers, leaders and trainers i.e. support them in the development of competencies needed for acting specifically against hate speech targeting Muslim community in Europe.

With this project, first of all, we want to empower youth workers and to support the development of capacities of partner organizations to combat hate speech specifically targeting Muslims, especially in online environments. Based on WE Can manual, training will propose a set of online and offline communication and educational approaches and tools to undermine narratives, which sustain and legitimize hate speech.

With this project, we also want to extend No Hate Makers Network by involving new organizations, same as to ensure its sustainability and ensure sufficient capacities to work in the field of human rights and combating hate speech in the future. The project will also support and continue the mission and vision of the No Hate Speech movement campaign.

By this project, we want to impact and make positive changes in different levels – from local levels of partner organizations to the international level. We also want to have an impact on different target groups: young people, youth workers and leaders, online activists and citizens in general.

The purpose of this project is to increase the number of individuals and organizations, spread the knowledge about and support use of the tools that can effectively tackle problem of islamophobia and hate speech targeting Muslims (specifically counter and alternative narratives and WE CAN! manual) which, as it was described and explained throughout the project is rising challenge and human rights threat across Europe.

Project objectives:
• Explore the causes of Islamophobia in European context
• Support development of competences of youth workers, leaders and trainers in the field of human rights education, particularly in combating hate speech targeting Muslims
• Encourage use of WE CAN! manual and counter and alternative narratives
• Support capacity building of partner organization, strengthen the cooperation and assure the sustainability of our network
