Training Course

3-12 July 2023 | Osterholz Scharmbeck, Germany

The project aims to foster the ability of young people to make conscious decisions about their sexuality and relationships, as well as their well-being and health.

Parents often provide unreliable/insufficient information on sex-related topics, but the same happens with peers. The Internet plays a large role, we live in a digital era, where access to information is often not controlled. In addition, media coverage can distort the perception of  sexuality (for example, youth watching pornographic content on the internet). Often people do not understand their own sexuality; thus, it is hard to pass the knowledge to the younger generations. Sexual behaviors are rapidly changing. As a result, there is an increasing fear of STIs (sexually transmitted infections), teenage pregnancies (because of the lack of knowledge about contraception and responsibility), and sexual abuse.

OBJECTIVES:

1. Raise social awareness about the importance of sexual education

2. Break the taboos and myths surrounding sexuality

3. Exchange knowledge and practices on sexual education in the participating countries

4. To find creative ways to incorporate sexual education into youth work and education

PARTICIPANTS

This activity is open to youth workers, teachers and educators who are directly involved in working with young people, especially those from vulnerable groups (such as LGBTIQ+, migrants, refugees, Roma etc.), who are open to learning and developing new skills and competencies. The youth workers can come from diverse backgrounds, but most are young people who are engaged in their surroundings to improve conditions, raise awareness and activate their communities. The youth workers have experience working with marginalized youth and can contribute to the project based on their experience. The participants involved are open-minded youth workers, motivated to gain new knowledge to develop competencies and to be multiplicators once back home.
