Training Course

1-6 September 2026 | Munich, Germany

Two Trainings on non-violent conflict transformation, intercultural understanding, and ways of combating stereotypes and “othering” to promote dialogue, and exploring empathy, and how to build culture of peace in your community and beyond.

Project Aim:
This project aims to empower 25 youth workers, leaders, and activists and equip them with the skills, knowledge, competencies, and tools in nonviolent conflict transformation, intercultural understanding, and combating othering in order to act as multipliers on the local level and promote a culture of peace.

Project Objectives:
To equip participants with knowledge on concepts of peace, peacebuilding, violence, conflict, nonviolence, and culture of peace;

  • To foster understanding of conflict transformation in theory and practice;
  • To introduce participants to conflict transformation tools such as Nonviolent Communication, empathy, active listening, and alternative narratives;
  • To explore conflict analysis tools and examine local realities and narratives in participants’ communities;
  • To challenge stereotypes, prejudices, and “othering” through intercultural learning and open dialogue;
  • To explore the relationship between personal and social identities and conflict transformation;
  • To analyze the consequences of othering on individuals and communities and its role in conflicts;
  • To foster understanding of cultural diversity and its role in building peaceful and inclusive societies;
  • To support participants in planning follow-up activities addressing local conflicts and promoting their transformation;
  • To facilitate the creation of a booklet of transformative narratives as educational material for combating othering and fostering a culture of peace;
  • To establish a safe and inclusive environment for dialogue, exchange, and future cooperation among participants across Europe.

The selected participants will participate in three phases:

1 - Training Course on Combating Othering

(Munich, Germany) from September 1st to 6th, 2026 (+2 travel days) - This phase focuses on exploring identities, stereotypes, prejudices, intercultural dialogue, and the role of “othering” in conflicts while fostering empathy, mutual understanding, and inclusive narratives.

2 - Training Course on Conflict Transformation

(Munich, Germany) from November 17th to 22nd, 2026 (+2 travel days)- This phase focuses on strengthening participants’ competencies in nonviolent conflict transformation through practical tools such as Nonviolent Communication, active listening, empathy, conflict analysis, and alternative narratives.

3 - Follow-up Action multiplying impact

Participants will organize local or cross-border follow-up initiatives to disseminate the skills, methods, and learning outcomes gained throughout the project in their communities and beyond.

Note: Participation in both training courses and the follow-up action is mandatory. Applicants must commit to all phases of the project.

Youth Peace Ambassadors Network (YPAN) is an informal network of young peacebuilders across Europe and beyond working with conflict-affected communities. Members of YPAN are trained in human rights, non-formal education, and conflict transformation by the Council of Europe.

Costs

Participation fee

None

Accommodation and food

The participation is free, that includes travel costs, accommodation & food.

The accommodation as well as food will be provided by the organization during the training courses. Any costs that exceed the period of the trainings have to be covered by own expenses.

Special needs will be accommodated as good as possible. Please make sure to communicate them as early as possible. 

Travel reimbursement

Travel costs will be reimbursed. Depending on the country of origin, the limit to which we will be able to reimburse will differ. The general condition of the reimbursement is the provision of all travel tickets as well as attendance for the whole duration of both training courses.

TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT LIMITS (per mobility/ training):

  • Cyprus — 395 EUR
  • France — green travel: 417 EUR (if travelling by plane — 309 EUR)
  • Germany — green travel only — 285 EUR for 100–499 km distance (for distances shorter than 100 km — 56 EUR)
  • Greece — 309 EUR
  • Serbia — 309 EUR
  • Türkiye — 309 EUR
  • Bosnia & Herzegovina — 309 EUR
  • Kosovo — 309 EUR

Participants will receive a Youthpass certificate.
