COMPASS: Creating Communication on Educational Programs with Under-engaged Communities

Training Course

24 May - 1 June 2024 | EJBW Weimar, Germany

It is often pre-existing relationships of trust that bring newcomers into Erasmus+. Via a TC & funded follow-up, we will support reflection and action on multiplying outreach through pre-existing networks, especially to those under-engaged by Erasmus+

To achieve the Horizontal Priority of Inclusion and Diversity in Erasmus+, outreach and communication is key. Our research has brought us to an understanding that it is pre-existing relationships of trust that bring newcomers into Erasmus+ Activities. Through a training course and follow-up activities (funded), we will support project managers, youth leaders, and activists to reflect and act upon this method of multiplying outreach through pre-existing networks, especially to communities under-engaged by  Erasmus+

Context: Exploring Pre-existing Networks and Relationships of Trust as Tools for Outreach in Erasmus+ Activities

In the past 30 years, the Erasmus+ program has reached an estimated 10 million participants. Strides have been made to make the program as open as possible, and to reduce barriers of access, with Inclusion & Diversity as a horizontal priority for the current program. However a key building block inclusion in Erasmus+ is outreach. Our research and decades of experience delivering mobilities with minority communities has brought us to an understanding that it is pre-existing relationships of trust that bring newcomers into Erasmus+ Activities.

Through a training course and follow-up activities (funded), we will support project managers, youth leaders, and activists to reflect and act upon this method of multiplying outreach through pre-existing networks, especially to communities under-engaged by  Erasmus+

Objectives of the TC

  •  to organise space for exchange on the current practices and struggles/difficulties in outreach regarding under-engaged groups in Erasmus+
  •  to increase knowledge and sensitivity on the topic of inclusion and intersectionality in this context
  •  develop competencies to involve less-represented groups in local and international youth work & educational programs
  •  to develop skills in communicating opportunities (from the perspective of relationship building and trust)
  • to develop action plans, tools, workshop plans for follow-up activities
  • to share the NFE approach as an example of engaging  youth work

Expected results and learnings, after the TC participants will:

  •  get knowledge on the topics of inclusion and intersectionality
  •  get competences to engage less-represented groups in their activities (local/international)
  •  run local activities to engage people (write reflection, consultation, sharing in your organisation knowledge gained)
  • 15 x 200 EUR est. scholarships will be provided for local activities and reflections by participants in their local contexts
