ComEdu: COMICS AS A METHOD IN EDUCATION

Training course for educators, youth workers and comic artists from Latvia, Estonia and Portugal to explore comics as a tool in youth work, improve their facilitation skills and develop new methods. Apply by 27 August 2019 here: http://ejuz.lv/omedu2

The objectives of the training course:
→ to strengthen the network between the partners, comic artists and educators / youth workers;
→ to share, learn and evaluate the educational comics created by the co-working teams and to develop methods based on them to use in youth work;
→ to discover comics as a tool in youth work;
→ to develop facilitators' competence to use the comic methods working with youth;
→ to plan dissemination activities for the methods developed.

APPLY if you are:
→ YOUTH WORKER / EDUCATOR or COMIC ARTIST that is actively involved in youth work and collaborates with one of the partner organizations;
→ 18+ years old resident of Latvia, Estonia or Portugal;
→ English speaker (the working language of the project is English);
→ ready to actively participate in the whole training course in Portugal (near Lisbon) 22 – 28 October 2019;
→ ready to learn and contribute to developing educational materials on how the comics can be applied in non-formal education;
→ ready to organize a local activity –  the comics exhibition opening and workshops in your local community together with other participants and the partner organization from your country.

PROGRAM OUTLINE
22 Oct → Arrivals. Welcome dinner. Introduction & getting to know each other, program, practicalities. History of the project.
23 Oct →  Aims, objectives of the project. Group building & resources. The exhibition of intellectual output – educational comics. Comics as a method in youth work.
24 Oct → Discovering different comic workshop techniques & methods and facilitation styles. Designing comic workshops. Preparation – developing the content, methods and materials.
25 Oct → Comic workshops in practice: comic workshops delivered by participants and the opening of the exhibition at Amadora Comic Festival. Feedback.
26 Oct → Collection of methods and materials for reports and e-book. Future ideas.
27 Oct → Future plans & follow-up: planning for dissemination events – content, program, logistics. Evaluation. Reports. Visibility.
28 Oct → Departures

This training course is part of long-term strategic partnership project "ComEdu: Comics for Education" that aims to improve and expand international youth work by bringing comic artists and youth workers together and developing comics as a learning and communication tool in non-formal education.

Costs

Participation fee

There is no participation fee in terms of money. However, the participants are expect to invest their time and energy to fully participate in the training course and contribute in creating methods for applying educational comics in youth work and to organize an event of comics exhibition, educational comics book opening and workshop for youth and youth workers in their country.

Accommodation and food

As the project is supported by Erasmus+: Youth in Action program, the accommodation, food and training materials will be covered.

Travel reimbursement

As the project is supported by Erasmus+: Youth in Action program, the travel expenses also will be reimbursed – up to 300 EUR for Latvian and Estonian participants and up to 25 EUR for Portuguese participants. N.B.! The reimburesement will be done by bank transfer to the personal bank account after the succesful participation in the training course, providing all travel documents and after delivering the expected outcome (local event). Please, contact the organizing team for more details and do not purchase any tickets before final confirmation!

Participants are entitled to receive a Youthpass certificate from the organiser, for recognition of their competence development during the activity. Read more about Youthpass:
