“Children and Youth on the Net” - European Expert Conference on Youth and Digital Media

Seminar

26-28 April 2017 | Luxembourg, Luxembourg

Children and adolescents are surrounded by digital media, which have become highly interconnected. However, being immersed in the media like “fish in water” with access to online content almost anytime and anywhere poses challenges not only for kids.
Rather, maximizing the positive experiences of digital media use while limiting its risks and potential harm is a challenge that caregivers, stakeholders, service providers, media companies as well as policy makers have to face together. This conference brings together international experts who share the same goal—to monitor and understand the use of online media of the younger generations, to foster digital media education and to protect children and youths at cross-country levels. To this end, participants will bring their expertise from the fields of academia, education, non-governmental associations, media companies, and politics. In three keynote speeches, World Café workshops and subsequent plenary sessions, participants will: - exchange recent research findings, discuss research challenges and explore possible future cooperations in the field of data collection and analysis; - experience hands-on workshops on media education and on online awareness raising for children and youths; - identify current as well as future cross-sectorial projects. Participants will learn about country-specific approaches and EU wide funding opportunities. Ultimately, the communicative and creative atmosphere of the conference will provide a unique opportunity for participants from various fields of action to expand their knowledge on the complex topic of children and youth online, foster new contacts and strengthen existing networks.
