BEYOND THE LENSES. Alternative narratives for peacebuilding through documentary in the context of youth work

Training Course

3 December 2025 - 27 January 2026 | Madrid and Nicossia, Spain

Double training course (Mad in Dec and Cy in Jan) on documentary making and alternative narraitives as conflict transformation tool. We will record a semi-professional documentary showing the grassroots level perspective.

In a world dominated by conflict narratives, we urgently need to prioritize alternative narratives and highlight resilient grass roots efforts. Conflict transformation depends on amplifying existing stories of peace, solidarity, and coexistence within communities.

Documentary recording is the powerful tool we will use to capture the reality of bi-communitarian work and cooperation. By moving past traditional media framing, we will transform participants into creators of referents for peacebuilding, narrating change from the bottom up.

Is mandatory to participate in both trainings

- Madrid 03/12/2025–09/12/2025 (including travel days — 5days of training and 2 days of travel)

- Nicossia 21/01/2026–27/01/2026 (including travel days — 5days of training and 2 days of travel)

We will bring together youth workers, activists, media professionals, and emerging filmmakers to reflect on the vital role of decentralized, community-driven media in peace processes. Our goal is to empower these agents of change to use their lenses to amplify the voices of civil society, turn local efforts into European models of cooperation, and provide tangible evidence that peaceful coexistence is not a distant goal, but a lived reality.

The primary goal of this project is to empower 22 participants — including young people, youth workers and leaders, filmmakers, writers, communicators, and artists — in the use of documentary filmmaking as a dynamic tool for conflict transformation, peacebuilding, and the promotion of Human Rights at both local and international levels.
