Ancient Wisdom for Modern Times - Sacred Self

Training Course

3-12 December 2019 | The ASHA Centre, United Kingdom

This first training course, Sacred Self, is aimed at exploring humanity’s ancient wisdom traditions and how these can help us in our lives today. We will focus on what the two religions of Hinduism and Christianity have to say about our identity.

“In the wisdom of the past lies the hope of the future” - Confucius

This is the first of three courses aimed at exploring humanity’s ancient wisdom traditions and how these can help us in our lives today. Its goal is to equip participants with knowledge and tools, with which they can more effectively address the problems of our modern world.

In the first course entitled Sacred Self, we will focus on what the two religions of Hinduism and Christianity have to say about our identity. We will explore the question of ‘what is the Self?’ and how I can realise it more fully in my life. We will look at the ancient path of spiritual enlightenment and how its principles can be practised healthily today.

During the course participants will:

be introduced to the wisdom of the Hindu, Vedic tradition.

practice meditation and mantra recitation

explore the deeper foundations of the Christian traditions

reflect on the false and true Self and what makes up our personality

create a personal spiritual practise

The course will use non-formal educational methods, including theatre-based games, groupwork, artistic presentations, team-building exercises – as well as traditional techniques of enlightenment, such as meditation, prayer and chanting.

Subsequent courses will look at what humanity’s wisdom traditions can tell us about i) the earth and our relationship to it ii) how to create a more sacred society.

At the Centre, we offer an integrated programme of community, land and arts-based activities that are designed to meet the core challenges that young adults in Europe and beyond now face.

Typically, we run nine-day courses, though we have also coordinated larger events, including month-long training courses and cultural exchange programmes. We have implemented 120 such projects, generally receiving outstanding feedback.
