E-Newspaper EYE

Poland, Sweden & Latvia created a European youth newspaper online

  • Background

The idea of this project aroused during the contact making seminar, which took place in Brussels in September 2003. Young people met in order to gain new partners for the international cooperation in the frames of the Youth Programme - Action 3 (Networking projects). Among these people we found an idea to create in the Internet a newspaper with European dimensions for the young people.

  • Name of the organisation / Partners

The coordinator of the project is an Education Association on the Internet from Poland and the partners are Youngsters from Sweden (Solleftea), who we know for a long time, young people from Latvia - European Youth Human Rights Network with whom we conducted an international youth exchange also engaged in this project.

  • Main aim of the project

We would like young people from Poland, Latvia and Sweden to have the opportunity of learning the culture of the European countries.

Description of the project

By publicising the articles we want to integrate young people from all European countries no matter if they are the new members of EU.

Our project will help youth in spreading the knowledge about the Internet, EU, the culture of the continent and the Youth Programme.

Youth's task are gathering the materials, writting the articles, preparing them for the publication. During the whole project in the redactions in all countries more and more young people will be engaged. We would also like to ask for help young people from other parts of the countries ? it would be enabled by the internet communication. We would also be happy to cooperate with originations (ergo young people) from other European countries.

During the whole project youngsters from all countries will be responsible for gathering the materials for the article, interviewing, translating the most interesting articles to English and sending them to Poland, gathering photographical documentation, publishing the national issue in the Internet. Polish group will be also responsible for correcting the articles in English, which were sent to them from other countries and then publishing them in the Internet.

The imperative aim of the project is to engage youngsters from societies with economical and social dysfunctions in the life of the local society, but not only ? because the project is a network one, young people would be able to make new international relationships and to practice their skills in using English language.

By working in groups young people would be prepared to take active part in the social life (also in their future work), studying abroad. This opportunity will be enabled for Poland and Latvia after they joined the EU.

Young people have the opportunity to work as reporters, journalists, photographers, informatics and translators ? the aim of the project is to enable young people to work in this professions. The aim of newspaper will also be t show the possibilities of the Internet.

Due to the huge European range of the project it is a very interesting proposition for the young people. That's why we want to engage young people from the local societies (often with social and economical problems).

After the end of the period of time when the newspaper will be published in the frame of the Youth Program, we want to continue the publishing of the newspaper. Young people from each country will be responsible for finding new ways of financing the newspaper, so that it could develop and the number of its readers would increase. Young people would have to cooperate with companies, institutions and organizations that would contribute to publishing of the newspaper. We would like to find new partners among other European countries.
