All the Doors are Open for the Active Ones!

Developing citizenship among youngsters ...presented by Linda from Latvia

  • My project ?

The title of my project was: "All the Doors are Open for the Active Ones!" The aim was to foster active citizenship among the young people in the region, to help inactive young people to develop their leadership qualities, so that they would be able to take an active part in the regional youth life and in life in general! Not only as participants! But also creating their own projects! The target group was secondary school students aged 16 to 18. In particular, there were 26 participants, some from an orphanage and a few of them partially disabled. The content of the project was 5 sequential seminars taking place on weekends. Each of them had a particular topic. The participants had also the opportunity to draft their own projects.

  • The Outcome ?

Well, the first outcome is the experience itself. Through the development of the project you learn many things that you would never find in a book! For the target group of young people, it was very important to have the starting point, a basis on which they can build their own projects and cooperation. The community has benefited from the initiative, since there are some local projects born after our initiative, and also at international level both within the framework of the Youth Programme and through educational programmes to study abroad. We created a webpage with information about programmes for young people in Europe and also regional information about events. Before there were no webpages assembling all this info.
