SALTO Inclusion 2010

A longer term approach on Social Inclusion & Employment

SALTO Inclusion wanted to contribute to the discussion on how to use the Youth in Action programme as a tool to respond to one of the big challenges in society: youth unemployment.

SALTO Inclusion continued its close cooperation with the SALTO Training and Cooperation Resource Centre regarding the use of Youthpass with young people with fewer opportunities.

There were important links made between the SALTO Inclusion work and activities of the EU Presidencies focussing on Youth Employment.

10th Anniversary of the SALTO network

Inclusion Capacity Building & Training

In 2010 SALTO Inclusion supported NAs and SALTOs in developing Inclusion Activities, exploiting the work started on Youth & Unemployment in 2009:

• New Perspectives: young people with fewer opportunities use the Youth in Action programme - cooperation with German NA
• Paths to Working Life - training course - cooperation with the Finnish NA
• Mobility of young people with fewer opportunities - emphasising the outcomes of mobility projects - part of the Belgian EU presidency - cooperation with SALTO Participation
• Tools for youth workers using Youthpass with young people with fewer opportunities - cooperation with SALTO Training & Cooperation (Youthpass)

Inclusion Colleague Support Groups for NAs

• Bridges between different EU programmes to combat exclusion - cooperation with UK & Estonian NA
• Inclusion in the future Youth programme - cooperation with the Swiss NA

Knowledge based youth work

SALTO Inclusion collated knowledge about the topics of social inclusion & un/employment. It organised an Round table expert meeting and carried out a comparative litterature review to build a solid research foundation for its inclusion & employment work.

• Images in Action booklet
• Inclusion Through Employability - Youth work approaches to unemployment - review of recent literature research on youth employment
• Village Interanational, Making Waves, Youthpass for All, Working on Work, No Offence - updated and reprinted
• A toolbox publication with concrete methods to work with Youthpass and young people with fewer opportunities - in cooperation with SALTO Training and Cooperation
• Good Practice folder on Inclusion, updated, with focus on youth and (un)employment projects

Quality & Trainers in Europe

SALTO Inclusion manages the Trainers Online for Youth (TOY) database on behalf of the SALTO network and has done an review of the TOY database, to reflect more the current European priorities and further increase user-friendliness.
