YouthFest

16-23 May 2011 | Derry, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom

‘YouthFest’ is an experiential learning training programme for 45 youth workers from 15 countries who will work together to develop and deliver workshops on 5 themes to young people in Derry~Londonderry in Northern Ireland.
This Training Programme will bring together practitioners from all over Europe in a common ‘celebration’ of youth work practice and in doing so acknowledge and recognise unique and specific ‘skill sets’ among participants which can promote greater awareness of and respect for youth work among local publics but more importantly provides space for youth workers to engage in experiential learning processes which enhances practice with the aim of engaging marginalised young people in constructive but testing environments. Workers will work together to develop and critique methodologies so as to enhance skills in five areas – Music & Dance, Drama & Theatre, Sports and Outdoor Education, The Arts and Play. During the training participants will engage in a six-phase experiential learning process: (i) establishing relationships (ii) identifying and share existing skills (iii) contrasting and comparing methods (iv) further developing skills and methods (v) applying learning and practice among local communities and (vi) reflecting on the process and developing actions so as to inform future practice. The programme will also lead to the development of a series of initiatives in participants own settings or in joint-settings with other participants but which promote skills among marginalised or ‘hard-to-reach’ young people. Recruitment is being co-ordinated by partners in the following countries: Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Republic of Ireland, Iceland, Lithuania, Spain, Turkey, Poland, Greece, Malta and Bulgaria. Applications received will be directed to Partner Organisations in these countries. Please note that some places are already be filled and in the event where this is the case we will create a 'Standby Pool' of applicants. All applications should be returned to thekingisalive@hotmail.com
