Workshop On Critical Thinking
A workshop on critical thinking for young people using multimedia tools and non-formal methods.
Aims of the tool
- to give participants a general introduction to critical thinking;
- to highlight the importance of critical thinking (and the dangers of lack of critical thinking) ;
- To identify the key features of critical thinking.
Description of the tool

Step-by-step instruction:
1) Introduction - 15 min
For participants and facilitator to get to know each other and later create connection with the topic ,an activity « 2 truths and 1 lie» is played:
- participants need to write 2 truthful facts about themselves and one fact, which is made up (a lie).
- They mingle in the group and try to guess which fact of each other was a lie.
- In a group - a round of sharing.
Supporting questions:
Was it difficult to find out which one was a lie?
What helped you identify the lie?
Is it difficult to identify a lie in real life?
What makes it difficult to spot the fake/ lie facts?
Based on the answers, facilitator gives some prompts, introducing concepts «disinformation» and «manipulation».
2) Introduction of concept of critical thinking: - 10 min
Facilitator asks question: What are your associations with a concept « critical thinking» and if any of them heard the term.
Based on answers, facilitator is giving an input on what is critical thinking.
3) Watching the animation. - 2 min
4) Discussion after the animation: - 15min
What was it about?
Do you check sources?
How do you do it?
Why do you need to share responsibly?
What could be the consequence if you don't check sources and share?
5) Chinese whisper/ Gossip game 10 min
What connections do you see between the game and social media?
5) The Code of Critical thinker - 15 min
Participants are split in small groups of 3-5 people and their task is to
come up with 5 basic tips of a critical thinker.
Sharing and presenting in the group - 15 min
Closing and feedback - 5 min
