RLB TC - Removing the linguistic barriers in English within intercultural communication

Training course

11-17 June 2012 | Clinchamps sur Orne ( Normandy), France

A TC, to give the participants enough confidence in using English to develop European projects, to improve their practice in English related to international youth work, to understand intercultural situations in international team work and partnership.

WARNING! This training course is not designed for absolute beginners in English or for people wishing to improve a good level in English. Applicants are requested to use the assessment grid of the “European common framework of languages” (see next page),
to evaluate the level of their actual English language skills, from A1 to B2.

French participants should be from Bretagne, Centre, Basse et Haute Normandie regions


• Target group: youth workers, people working in NGOs, associations, local authorities or governmental services, involved in the Youth in Action programme, who feel that their lack or weakness of practice of the English language is a barrier :
o in their effort to network and build partnerships
o to present and explain the reality of their organisation and their work
o to prepare efficiently a project with their partners
o to express clearly their objectives, aims or wishes …
• Group size: 24 participants (half of them from France) from different European countries
• Aims and objectives:
o to give the participants enough confidence in using English to develop European projects under the YiA programme
o to improve their practice in English related to international youth work
o to understand intercultural situations in international team work and partnership
• Programme elements:
o concrete exercises related to international youth work (for example, presentation of your organisation, elaboration of a youth exchange programme, phone calls with a partner, etc)
o knowledge and vocabulary of the European Youth in Action programme
o basic grammar and general vocabulary to survive in an English speaking environment
o exercises and simulation games on intercultural teamwork
• Methods:
o Focus on speaking English
o Short and varied exercises
o both individual work and small groups
• Trainers:
o Patty KEY : an English teacher, coming from Canada and living in Great Britain, specialized in teaching English to non-native speakers
o Emmanuel BECKER, French, counsellor for Youth and non formal education, regional governmental administration for Youth in Lower Normandy.

Preference will be given to candidates involved in a project under the Youth in action programme who will rapidly need to speak English for implementing that activity.

Costs

This training course is part of the Training and Cooperation Plan of the French National Agency of Youth in action Programme.
All accomodation, food and course programme costs are covered by French NA.
Travel costs can be totally of partially reimbursed by the sending National Agency (Contact your NA to check this point before applying).
The travel costs of participants from France are totally reimbursed, and French NA ask a participation fee of 15 euros/day of training (75 euros for this TC)
