Mentoring for change

Training Course

28 May - 2 June 2013 | Konstancin Jeziorna (near Warsaw), Poland

Mentoring for change-Coaching as an approach and tool for supporting volunteers during their EVS training course is aiming at supporting personal and professional development of mentors and motivating them for long-term involvement in the organisations.
Change is indeed a key word, if you ask volunteers abut their experience during EVS. Volunteers face smaller and bigger changes, whether you look at a specific situation during EVS, or putting the EVS experience in a broader context of a person's biography. On the other side, people who work with volunteers show a growing interest in managing change as well as learning how to support someone, who is facing various changes. Coaching, it's philosophy and tools, seems to offer solution for both, understanding personal change better and supporting others going successfully through change processes and “manage” change. We would like to invite EVS mentors to explore together with us questions related to managing change in and during EVS: What is change? What is change in EVS about? What strategies do volunteers use to cope with change? How can we (as their mentors) support them? How can coaching be applied to our work with volunteers? During the training course “Mentoring for change” we will discover different models of (managing) personal change, experience the Solution-focused Coaching approach and try out various coaching tools and techniques. Aims We would like to create a learning space that allows: • to understand better personal change (in general as well as during EVS), • to get to know coaching approach, its philosophy and tools, • to try out and experience coaching tools and techniques, • to explore ways, how coaching philosophy and tools could be applied to the work of mentors supporting volunteers during EVS. Besides this we believe, that the training course is a great opportunity to exchange experience on different mentoring practices on an international level, as well as creating a support-network among mentors. Participants We would like to invite to this training course EVS mentors who: ● have experience of being a mentor in at least one long-term EVS project, ● value the subject of personal change and are curious to explore more of it, ● are interested and motivated to develop their personal and professional competences, ● would like to commit themselves for a long-term involvement in their organisation, ● are at least 18 years old residents of the Youth in Action Programme Countries (27 EU countries + Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Turkey and Croatia), SEE and EECA regions.
