Cooperation with the Western Balkans in Erasmus+: Youth

Erasmus+ is the European Union’s programme to support the professional and personal development of citizens through lifelong learning.

Erasmus+ - one of the European Union’s most visible success stories - is a programme in the fields of education, training, youth. By providing individuals and organisations opportunities to develop competences and capacities in these fields, the programme aims at contributing to more quality jobs, sustainable economic growth, driving innovation, social cohesion and strengthening of the European identity and active citizenship.

In the field of youth, the Programme aims at promoting non-formal and informal learning and active participation of young people, as well as cooperation, quality, inclusion, creativity and innovation at the level of organisations and policies.

The priorities of the programme are:

  • Inclusion and Diversity
  • Digital Transformation
  • Environment and fight against the climate change
  • Participation in democratic life, common values and civic engagement

The programme is dived to three Key Actions

  • Key Action 1 - Mobility of Individuals
  • Key Action 2 – Cooperation among organisations and institutions
  • Key action 3 – Support to policy development and cooperation

One of the important features of the programme is the international dimension, namely referring to cooperation with third countries not associated to the Programme. Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo* and Montenegro form the Region 1 (Western Balkans) in the Erasmus+ Programme.
