Aims & objectives

The aim of the event was to inspire young people from Czech Republic, Armenia and Russia aged 12-16 to become good community leaders of the future and imaginative bridge builders across national, cultural, touristic and scientific events. The expedition was thus a good opportunity to introduce young people to Siberia itself thanks to a visit to the cities of Novosibirsk and Tomsk.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

In total 20 young people from Czech Republic, Armenia and Russia aged 12-16 took part in the Camp.

Training methods used & main activities

We were presented cultural customs and traditions of Russia thanks to visits to the museum of archaeology, ethnology and the museum of the sun. But since it was an event dedicated to talented children, we also visited the Technology Park, the Planetarium and the Galileo Center, where the participants could achieve new knowledge. There was also a day dedicated to Russian, Armenian and Czech national culture - with tasting of typical dishes, dancing and singing. The organizers prepared meetings with representatives of the visited cities, scientists and famous travelers (Anatolyi Kulik, Sergey Medvedchikov, etc.). And last but not least, our young explorers took part in a three-days long rafting trip of the Ob River on a Kon-Tiki raft replica. There, they not only had time to relax and spend some time together playing sports, but also learned teamwork and responsibility when preparing meals, taking care of order on the ship or steering it, for example.

Outcomes of the activity

Young people became promised community leaders being more involved in youth work with an excelency in peer work and international field, as much as they brought back home and presented certain national, cultural, touristic and scientific knowledge and competences. Another outcome was that they gained sailing skills and some competences about constructing a raft and speding three days out in Sibberian wilderness.
