Aims & objectives

The seminar was based on sport as a vehicle to develop competences for young people, youth workers and professionals or volunteers who worked in the field of youth. The emphasis has been put on sport as a carrier of positive values, bringer of a positive life style for people who practice it, and we dedicated special attention to two alternative sides of it:

• the possibilities of social inclusion that can be achieved through sport;
• its more creative aspects, achieved by exploring less known sports and other activities that usually are not considered as mainstream sports (for example, acrobatics, juggling, street art performances).

The main objectives of the seminar can be summarized in the following points:

• To create a sharing platform and opportunity for organisations interested/experienced in developing sport based approaches for working with young people;

• To work towards understanding the benefits of using sport and outdoor activities for the development of an healthy life-style, creativity and entrepreneurship – to understand if this can lead to better employability of young people;

• Explore the opportunity for the use of sport within youth participation through celebrating and sharing good practice and accreditation opportunities;

• To improve the knowledge and understanding of the sport and its methods in non formal education;

• To promote and experience sport as an effective tool to foster social inclusion and the active participation of young people in society.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

I've designed the training course and, together with my above mentioned colleague, developed the methods used for the training.

My role was to facilitate the course (in a team of two) and to coordinate all the activities which took part in it. The methods ranged from open discussions, to group works, to frontal presentations, with a central part based on the Open Space methodology.

I worked on this training for 6 days as a full time trainer.
