Aims & objectives

The training had the overall aim to strengthen the cooperation and networking between German and Cameroon partners within the worldwards programme. Before, need had been expressed from all parties to share experiences and guiding principles within the pedagogical work with international volunteers.
Besides this, the organisations had the demand of getting more information about the possibilities to become part of the South-North component of the worldwards programme (at that time newly established).

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The activity involved leaders, pedagogical staff and mentors from sending and receiving organisations in Cameroon and Germany. All participants were involved in the voluntary service worldwards, either in the north-south or south-north component.
Some participants came from Germany, the majority came either from the English speaking part of Cameroon or from the French speaking part. Two participants were deaf, two persons visually impaired.

Training methods used & main activities

During the training we used several methods, e.g.: presentation with computer and on posters, working groups, group discussions, theater, film, peer councelling, interviews, role games

Outcomes of the activity

At the end of the training, participants (on receiving and sending side) agreed on minimum preconditions for volunteers. They got new insights in the pedagogical work of other organisations and mentors involved in the voluntary service. They shared experiences and got new impulses for their work with volunteers, especially in emergency or conflictive situations. They received information and training how to get involved in an inclusive voluntary service and in the South-North programme component.
The training was evaluated by the participants via feedback methods (form) and by the training team (group discussion). A summary was sent to the participants, but is not available online.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

I was part of the 3 headed trainers team.
We prepared all training sessions process-orientated and performed most of the sessions together but with clear task sharing. I also did translation (French-English) during the working sessions. Three important training sessions I was involved were:
- reality check: needs and expectations towards volunteers
- pedagogical guidance of volunteers
- conflicts and solutions in the work with volunteers

I worked on this training for 5 days as a full time trainer.
