Training is designed to prepare volunteers to become coordinators on international volunteer workcamps in Serbia. Training objectives were:
* To prepare participants for workcamp coordination in an interactive way
* To encourage exchange of personal experience of the participants from previous volunteer camps and provide enough examples of good and bad practice in the camp coordination
* To encourage participants to assess their leadership skills and empower leadership skills development
* To share basic knowledge about volunteer work, values and principles of volunteering, as well as the legal framework
* To explain the logistics of one workcamp from the camp leader point of view: how to organize the group life of volunteers, nutrition, free time, educational workshops, evacuation, prepare info package; how to ensure the safety of volunteers and assess risks; how to write a report; how to promote a camp; how to organize a campsite to follow the principles of ecological, social and economic sustainability, etc.
* To explain how to organize a workcamp by encouraging the personal development of volunteers, sharing experiences and learn about other cultures, and involve the local community: triggers for development, the importance of workcamp change, intercultural learning, group development, the role of camp leaders, solving common conflicts and problems
Two 3-day training courses involved 25 participants from Serbia:
* young people with previous experience in international volunteer workcamps abroad, and
* representatives of camp organizers - local leaders.
Age of participants was 19+ (most of the participants aged 19-30)
NFE methodology: Energizer, Name game, Moving debate, Discussion, Workcamp simulation, Small group work, World cafe, Group building games indoors and outdoors...
All of the participants were engaged as camp leaders on international volunteer workcamps in Serbia. Most of the leaders from this groups have demonstrated good coordination and group building skills and supported successful realization of workcamps.
As part of the trainers team, my responsibilities were to:
* prepare and facilitate sessions,
* participate in creating camp leader teams for particular workcamps
*mentor leaders.
