How many colours does the future have?

The training activity took place
in Vilnius, Lithuania
organised by Centre for Creative Arts with the support of National Agency
07 - 12 May 2007

Aims & objectives

The international seminar aimed:
• to generally analyse situation of discrimination problems in different countries,
• to share experience of how youth multipliers fight discrimination in each different country,
• to learn how to use mass-media as a tool to fight discrimination.
The seminar was targeted to youth workers and leaders of youth organisations who are active (are motivated to start working) in the field of fighting discrimination or/and are using media in their work. The minimum age of participants is 20 years (exceptions possible).
Ofcourse all the activities were based on non-formal education.

More than that some of the participants will continue working on this issue in their local area.
For sure the 24 participants from 12 countries assured international dimension of our activities.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The target group were youth workers, social workers, trainers and volunteers coming from 12 countries ( Turkey, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Spain, Latvia, Bulgaria, Germany, Romania, Poland, Denmark, Italy and Lithuania).

Training methods used & main activities

Methods used:
- getting-to-know each other games
- team-building games
- simulations
- study cases
- role playing games
- plenary and small group discussions.

Most activities used were taken from COMPASS - manual on HRE for and with young people (www.coe.int/youth ).

Outcomes of the activity

Through the activities proposed, the participants
had a general analyse situation of discrimination problems in different countries - there were presented statistics from every country, each national group.
We offered tools and methods on how youth multipliers fight discrimination in each different country.
We put in practice some methods to realize how we can use mass-media as a tool to fight discrimination.
The participants had the opportunity to learn through Simulation and Role playing Games, small groups reflections, plenary presentations, inputs given by trainers and local experts, learning by doing.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

I led the simulation/role playing games and coordinate workshops like "Mass media: today and tomorrow", "Tele-shop on participants competences","European challenge","Agree/disagree", YiA presentation, Evaluation.
"Traditional" mass-media proved to be not very interested in topics like discrimination, that's why the solutions found during our activities refer to a "R-evolution" of media. That means to use more On-line media, Wikipedia, Blogs- to keep up-to-date.

I worked on this training for 5 days as a full time trainer.
