in Malawi
organised by World Vision International
2014

Aims & objectives

To increase the capacity of local, national, regional and international staff to facilitate activities that enabled children to have their voices heard. This was done by facilitating training on how to use the 'Story Teller's World' tools and approach. This approach empowers children and communities to use creative storytelling to have their voices heard.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The group was made up of colleagues from the UK, Greece, Australia, the USA, Indonesia, Malawi, Zambia, Kenya, Senegal, South Africa, Swaziland and Uganda.

Training methods used & main activities

Experiential learning - participants used the storytelling tools and resources on themselves to have a first hand experience.
Games, icebreakers, activities, which helped the group to relax, bond and reflect on some of the key principles of the training.

Outcomes of the activity

Participants completed a reflective journal and evaluation forms. Feedback was sought in a variety of ways. Positive feedback was given and participants shared that their confidence and competence levels in the area of child empowerment and child voice grew as a direct result of this training.
