"Weaving Worlds Together: Creating Intercultural Fairy Tales" is an experiential learning activity that uses folklore, storytelling, role-play, and AI-supported creativity to promote intercultural learning and dialogue. Participants begin by sharing traditional fairy tales from their cultures, exploring their plots, characters, symbols, archetypes, values, and moral messages. Through guided discussion, they identify both cultural specificities and recurring patterns found in fairy tales across the world.
Working in intercultural groups, participants then create an original international fairy tale that combines elements from the stories shared within their group. Using storytelling frameworks such as the Hero's Journey and Story Arc, they collaboratively develop characters, conflicts, settings, and narratives that reflect both shared human values and unique cultural traditions. AI tools may be used to support idea generation, script development, dialogue writing, language adaptation, and visual creation.
The activity culminates in the preparation and performance of the newly created fairy tales, followed by structured reflection and debriefing. Through storytelling, role-play, performance, and collective analysis, participants gain a deeper understanding of how folklore reflects culture while also revealing universal human experiences and values.
