Exercise
A playful news-reshaping game where players experiment with headlines and stories to explore how meaning and interpretation shift depending on framing, tone, and perspective.
To strengthen critical thinking about how news is constructed by:
a) Encouraging players to analyse how wording and framing influence perception; and
b) Helping them understand how narratives change as information is reshaped or reinterpreted.
Developed under the Unfake Social Media project’s Lateral Reading category, Breaking Fact invites players to approach news with curiosity and creativity. Rather than proving whether a story is true or false, players reshape headlines, rewrite angles, and observe how meaning changes depending on presentation.
Through playful experimentation, participants discover how easily narratives can shift — and how important context, tone, and perspective are when interpreting information. The game encourages flexible thinking and makes players more aware of the subtle ways news can be reframed.
By turning news analysis into an imaginative challenge, Breaking Fact builds sharper instincts for evaluating information and understanding how stories influence the way we think.
