*team building
*sharpen communication skills between members of the group via additional restrictions (priving participants from one of their natural senses (speaking-hearing or seeing))
*problem solving, teamwork and project management in a group.

Description of the tool

participants are splitted into different types of monkeys:
*monkeys which can not see:Mizaru
*monkeys which can not hear:Kikazaru
*monkeys which can not speak:Iwazaru

preferably make the most talkatives Iwazarus, the ones who have difficulty with language, kikazarus as they will not need to understand english to take part in the activity, and the rest is an matter of pure random ;)

we then form groups made of all types of monkeys
each group is made of 5-10 people, these 5-10 people made of different types of monkeys , are asked different tasks
a proposition of a task (but u can modify it) :
from their environment : branches of trees , leaves, other tools we provide them.... the monkeys should make a device (arrow) to be able to throw bananas to a certain distance (4-5 meters) ,
it can be in order to exchange other types of bananas with population of monkeys of other trees ; or in order to throw enemies with bananas in time of danger ; or simply to tease each other, participants can choose the use of their device
they are asked to make the device, then to present it in end of the session with an appropriate advertisement including advertisement spot with song, dance , announcement of the product and demonstration of how it works through a drawing explaining its mechanism (you ask as much as time can allow you actually)
and of course monkeys will put their device in trial
i can imagine the difficulties of communication between mizarus , kikazarus and iwazarus of a same group , but also the importance of cooperation between them as people who dont see are helped by others who see but dont hear and respectively..

Intercultural Learning

Materials needed:

-bands to cover eyes of the mizarus
-ear plugs (the best ones in stopping sounds) for the kikazarus (but it didnt really work with ear plugs, we needed something which could really prevent from hearing as music in ears or something like that..)
-bands to cover mouths of Iwazarus

*the picture of the 3 monkeys to expalin this philosophy before the session starts

*tools for the device : well of course immediate environment : branches of trees , leaves , but also ropes to tie ,cutters , cissors , an elastic rope for the arrow , and u can of course have your own proposition and your own restrictions as for materials, but here it was more about elaborating communication skills whatever restrictions there are, as being prevented from senses is already a big restriction :)

Duration:

30 minutes to 1 hour or 1 hour and a half (depends of the tasks you'll be asking and of the quality you are demanding)
