We Discover Cinema Adapting to Education!

The studies and works related to film pedagogy are very limited in elementary and middle schools in Turkey. There is not any curriculum applied by National Educational Ministry in Turkey. Cinema is not evaluated in an effective position in the education curriculum of children, and artistic production process contain deficiencies and limitations in many aspects.
Our project aims to overcome main above-mentioned structural problems by the help of European experiences in film pedagogy and cinema education. European organizations who are specialized in film education has various cultural activities and pedagogical materials used in workshops, school curriculums. We are aiming to investigate activities, curriculum materials, experts and other pedagogical tools of European organizations in film pedagogy and cinema education. At the end we would like to have an intellectual output about publicly open access web site which means a digital platform containing pedagogical materials in cinema education in Turkish and English. All the pedagogical cinema materials either way audiovisual or textual which we are planning to produce in this project are expected to be applied in elementary, intermediate and high schools of partner countries. It is aimed that the pedagogical materials to be developed will disseminate values such as intercultural communication, critical thinking, language awareness, EU citizenship, democracy, and human rights besides technical ways of making a film.

Expected when this project is completed;

• With this project, pedagogical cinema materials that can be applied in primary and secondary schools will be developed and shared publicly on a website that we are planning to create.
• Film recommendations, cross-cultural film analysis, film activities, short film workshop application documents and pedagogical content for the stages of short film shooting will be presented on the relevant website.
• Smart and comprehensible training videos to be prepared by cinema experts on the film production processes will be also available on the web site with open source access which we are planning to create. So, we ask to partner organizations to create this kind of training videos.
• Turkey will also have cinema information and culture in the EU standards
• It will be ensured in Turkey that cinema will be a part of formal education as in Europe.

Our expectations from partner organizations;

• In this process, we expect them to give us trainings and presentations with their own experiences.
• We expect them to contribute to the cinema education and film pedagogy curriculum that we are planning to prepare mutually with their team.
• We expect them to help us for an interactive and innovative curriculum (as intellectual outputs) to be created and to be used in partners countries.
• We expect to make a jointly contribution to popularize the cinema education and film pedagogy approach in formal education.
