#RepresentationMatters

The project #RepresentationMatters aims at guiding the participants to reflect on stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination in national and European media.

The project #RepresentationMatters aims at guiding the participants to reflect and discuss the use of stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination in media on a national and European level.

Specifically, we want to focus on media representation of minorities and marginalized groups and how to respond to this issue in a European context which is proving to be increasingly multicultural and transforming day by day.

We realized, by looking at the European situation now, how frequent stereotypical and prejudicial media representation is when it comes to minorities. This invalidates the process of creating a European identity that can be truly inclusive and fair.

The goals of the project will be:
- Identifying and discuss common forms of discrimination, stereotypes and prejudices in the media.
- Raising awareness of ethnic and gender differences while developing knowledge on the topic of Hate Speech and a greater understanding of the impact of representation(s) in the media.
- Promoting the development of video-making skills and the use of video as a social tool.
- Creating useful material for follow-up activities that promotes better representations in the communities where the participants come from.
