Refugees and migrants: an european islands approach

This is a project of citizen meeting aimed at reflecting on the treatment we give in our countries to migrants and refugees.

This is a project of citizen meeting aimed at reflecting on the treatment we give in our countries to migrants and refugees. The project will be developed in three phases:

1) A preparation phase in both countries where we will establish the logistics needs (accommodation, food, local transport, search for airline tickets, preparation and layout of information leaflet, search of external collaborators (technicians, experts, politicians) Different activities of the meeting week in Gran Canaria. This phase includes the development of a survey in both countries where we will ask for the vision we have about migrants and refugees in our respective communities.

2) A one-week meeting to be held in Gran Canaria where the direct participants will travel from Greece. In this meeting we will develop the following activities: it will allow the people of both islands to become acquainted with each other, discuss the role of our local societies with regard to migrants and refugees, learn about local institutions and the European instruments involved in the migration process, Reflect on the treatment of citizenship and the media dispenses refugees, evaluate political discourses regarding migrants and refugees, share and know the gastronomic traditions of our peoples through an intercultural night and evaluate the results of learning, acquisition Of values ​​and changes in the personal perspective of each participant, both directly and indirectly.

3) A final evaluation phase, including the promotion of project results and a series of activities aimed at promoting a greater multiplier effect (public seminars, web page, information leaflets).

Number of greek participants: 56.
Ages of greek participants: 15 participants younger than 30, 26 participants between 30 and 65 & 15 participants older than 65.

Hostel, meals and local transport costs are fully covered in Gran Canaria. Travel expenses are paid by each participant.
