Prepared youth for an effective disaster response

The proposed training course aims at providing a framework of intervention for youth workers needed in case of the present man made and natural disasters.

Disasters can cause massive destruction, resulting in deaths and injuries in large numbers. The real
dimension of disasters is given by the chaos provoked at community level and the trauma with which individuals remain, even long after the events have been consumed (NASF, 2017).

Community level tragedies require community solutions. The problem has effects on multiple policy areas, including medical, social, legal and administrative aspects, both from an institutional and a victim’s perspective, so having youth community members prepared for quality response in disaster
situations is a necessary competence for local community involvement.

The project aims at providing a framework of intervention for youth workers,
teachers, professors, educators, team leaders or psychologists, needed in case of the present man
made and natural disasters.
The objectives of the training course are:
- To support 40 participants in gaining competences regarding stress management, conflict
management, time management, team work and engagement of resources;
- To support 40 participants in gaining knowledge and skills for an efficient response in case of local
man made or natural disasters;
- To explain the framework of European Solidarity Corps in order for the participants to act as
multipliers of the program;
- To create a model of European social response at the local level in case of man made or natural
disasters.
As a result of the training course, a community social support system for victims of disasters, will cover the following needs:
- emotional needs: regarding empathy, concern, affection, acceptance and encouragement that
brings self-esteem and emotional recovery to the person;
- tangible needs: provision of financial assistance, material goods or services;
- informational support: advice, guiding, suggestions and useful information based on problem solving;
- companionship support: provision of a social belonging, a social group that provide a safe space for coping with the consequences of the disaster;
The project consists in 1 training course for youth workers and one youth exchange.
